Why recalibration is required
The forward camera is aimed at the road through a specific patch of glass. A new windshield, even an identical OEM part, sits a fraction of a degree differently, and the camera's view shifts with it. At highway speed a fraction of a degree is several metres of error a hundred metres ahead, which is the difference between a lane departure warning that fires at the right moment and one that does not fire at all. Every major manufacturer requires recalibration after windshield replacement, and skipping it can leave a warning light on or, worse, leave no light on and a system that is quietly wrong.
Static vs dynamic calibration
Static calibration is done in the shop with the vehicle parked on a level floor and a manufacturer-specified target placed at a measured distance in front of the camera. The scan tool teaches the camera where the target is. Many Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Hyundai and Kia models use this procedure.
Dynamic calibration is done on the road. The scan tool puts the camera in learning mode and a technician drives at a set speed on well-marked roads until the system confirms it has calibrated. Many Ford, GM, Mazda and European models use this, and some vehicles need both.

Insurance and documentation
Most Canadian insurers cover recalibration as part of a windshield claim, because the manufacturer requires it. We include it in the claim and give you a printed calibration report showing the pre- and post-calibration values, which is also useful if you later sell the vehicle or need an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate.
ADAS Camera Recalibration FAQs
How do I know if my car has ADAS?
If it has lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control or automatic emergency braking, it has a windshield camera. Most vehicles from about 2018 onward do.
How long does calibration take?
Static calibration usually 30 to 60 minutes after the glass has been set. Dynamic calibration is a 20 to 40 minute drive.
Can I skip it if there is no warning light?
No. Some vehicles do not throw a light when the camera is out of alignment. The system simply works less well than it should.
Do you calibrate vehicles that had glass replaced elsewhere?
Yes. If another shop replaced your windshield and did not calibrate, book a calibration-only appointment.
